Electric Current

Problem 3.177

In the circuit shown in Fig. 3.41 the sources have emf's E1=1.0 V\mathscr{E}_ {1}=1.0 \mathrm{~V} and C2=2.5 V\mathscr{C}_ {2}=2.5 \mathrm{~V} and the resistances have the values R1=10ΩR_{1}=10 \Omega and R2=20Ω.R_{2}=20 \Omega . The internal resistances of the sources are negligible. Find a potential difference φAφB\varphi_{A}-\varphi_{B} between the plates AA and BB of the capacitor CC.

Reveal Answer
φAφB=(E1E2)R1/(R1+R2)=0.5\varphi_{A}-\varphi_{B}=\left(\mathscr{E}_{1}-\mathscr{E}_{2}\right) R_{1} /\left(R_{1}+R_{2}\right)=-0.5
