Problem 1.131

The potential energy of a particle in a certain field has the form U=a/r2b/r,U=a / r^{2}-b / r, where aa and bb are positive constants, rr is the distance from the centre of the field. Find: (a) the value of r0r_{0} corresponding to the equilibrium position of the particle; examine whether this position is steady; (b) the maximum magnitude of the attraction force; draw the plots U(r)U(r) and Fr(r)F_{r}(r) (the projections of the force on the radius vector r\mathrm{r} ).

Reveal Answer
1.131. (a) r0=2a/b,r_{0}=2 a / b, steady; (b) Fmax=b3/27a2,F_{\max }=b^{3} / 27 a^{2}, see Fig. 7 .
