Conductors and Dielectrics in an Electric Field

Problem 3.56

Two point charges, \(q\) and \(-q\), are separated by a distance \(l\), both being located at a distance \(l / 2\) from the infinite conducting plane. Find: (a) the modulus of the vector of the electric force acting on each charge; (b) the magnitude of the electric field strength vector at the midpoint between these charges.

Reveal Answer
(a) \(F=\frac{(2 \sqrt{2}-1) q^{2}}{8 \pi \varepsilon_{0} l^{2}}\) (b) \(E=2\left(1-\frac{1}{5 \sqrt{5}}\right) \frac{q}{\pi \varepsilon_{0} l^{2}}\).
