Problem 2.135

Vessels 1 and 2 contain \(v=1.2\) moles of gaseous helium. The ratio of the vessels' volumes \(V_{2} / V_{1}=\alpha=2.0,\) and the ratio of the absolute temperatures of helium in them \(T_{1} / T_{2}=\beta=1.5\). Assuming the gas to be ideal, find the difference of gas entropies in these vessels, \(S_{2}-S_{1}\)

Reveal Answer
S2S1=vR(lnαlnβγ1)=1.0 J/KS_{2}-S_{1}=v R\left(\ln \alpha-\frac{\ln \beta}{\gamma-1}\right)=1.0 \mathrm{~J} / \mathrm{K}
